St Johns NHS Dental practice provides NHS dental services including:

• Oral examinations
• Diagnosis
• Advice and planning of treatment

• Periodontal treatment (care of the gums including scaling and polishing)
• Conservative treatment (tooth repair including fillings, inlays, veneers, crowns or bridges)
• Dental surgery
• Supply and repair of dental appliance such as dentures

Prescriptions

If you require prescribed medication for your dental treatment we will issue you with a prescription.

The dental practice does not dispense medicines but we can tell you where to find your nearest pharmacy to collect prescriptions.

Cosmetic Dental Care

Within the practice we also provide a range of private cosmetic dentistry options, which are not available on the NHS, such as teeth whitening, cosmetic bridges and crowns.

Teeth whitening

Our whitening treatments start from as little as £185 and is an effective way to brighten your smile. This price is inclusive of surgery time, materials and laboratory fees.

Our teeth whitening procedures are only carried out by our registered dentists in line with regulations. We operate with all national and European guidelines regarding whitening treatments.

Invisalign

If you have thought about improving your smile, then we also provide the Invisalign system which can give you the smile you have always wanted without the fixed braces.

Replacing Teeth

Losing a tooth can be the cause of real social and psychological concern, as well as affecting the function and general health of the other teeth, due to the resulting tooth movement.

There are three main ways to replace missing teeth:

1. Dentures - The classic “false teeth” These are removable and reversible replacements. They are constructed in either acrylic or cobalt-chrome metal and acrylic over a series of appointments involving the dental technician.
2. Bridges - A bridge is used as a permanent replacement for one or more missing teeth. They are both aesthetic and functional, restoring your natural bite and preventing movement of adjacent teeth and over eruption of the tooth opposite the gap. In simple terms they can be viewed as crowns joined together and cemented on the supporting teeth, with a fixed false tooth in between to "bridge the gap". They are a very desirable alternative to a removable partial denture.
3. Implants - An implant is a device made of titanium that is gently placed into your jaw to act as an anchor for a single crown, a bridge, or to hold a denture in place. It becomes fixed to the bone by “osseo-integration” i.e. it becomes integrated into the jaw bone as the bone grows around it. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic with addition of sedation if required.
